As Bethel University experienced a period of rapid growth in enrollment, the university looked to A2H to partner with them in planning, programming, and designing two ground up new dorms. A2H worked with university staff to develop a four-room suite configuration that would provide an excellent balance between space/cost efficiency and the desired level of privacy and personal space.
These two new dormitories at its main campus in McKenzie, TN, University Hall and Heritage Hall, provided a total of 126,000 SF of modern student housing options in the heart of the campus, directly adjacent to the newly construction student center.
The program and design developed for the first dorm constructed, University Hall, was able to be adapted for the layout of Heritage Hall. In addition, Heritage Hall was designed and built as a two-phase project. The Central Lobby and three-story East Wing were constructed and the building and site were intentionally designed to accommodate an equally sized three-story West Wing addition in the future as growth warrants.
In order to meet the new demand for on-campus housing, both projects were programmed, designed, and built on a fast-track schedule with the first dorm being constructed in just over nine (9) months.
