A2H was selected by the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority to provide a design for the seismic retrofit of four bridges crossing Winchester Road at the Memphis International Airport in Memphis, TN. These bridges provide critical access to three of Memphis International Airport’s four runways.

One of the bridges provides vehicular access into and out of the airport from Winchester Road, which is a main thoroughfare serving the City of Memphis, and provides passenger vehicle access into the airport property.

Three of the bridges provide taxiway and/or runway access across Winchester Road for commercial and private airlines, military operations out of the Tennessee Air National Guard Base to the South and the FedEx Hub. FedEx’s largest hub and sort facility in North America is located across Winchester Road, which made this seismic upgrade project vital to ensuring reliable operations at America’s busiest air cargo airport in the event of an earthquake.
