Recognition

The Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority House occupies a prominent location in Sorority Village on UTK’s campus. This 50-bed chapter house, with a 160-seat chapter room, was designed for the day-to- day life of the residents and weekly chapter functions as well as large events. The proximity and connectivity of the chapter room, parlor, and dining spaces allow for flexibility while maintaining intimacy desired for daily use. The lower level provides a congregate laundry and large multi- purpose room. On the main level is a full commercial kitchen / serving line / dining, chapter room and house manager quarters supporting the full complement of residents. The upper floor is dedicated to resident rooms, congregate restrooms / bathing and study space.

Designed in Old World / European residential style, the chapter house sets out to impress tradition, strength, familiarity, and comfort upon new pledges. The facility utilizes load-bearing masonry and structural steel framing to accommodate the architectural vernacular and meet the demands of the program for clear span activity spaces. The design incorporates “old world” cast stone detailing, architecturally correct fenestration and a finely detailed grand sweeping stair at the front entry.
