As part of on-going improvements to the Salt Lake City International Airport, FedEx was forced to quickly relocate its high security sort facility. With the existing facility to be demolished, this project was completed on a tight schedule in order to minimize interruptions to FedEx’s sort operations.
As a key member of the design/build team, A2H was able to provide not only the technical understanding needed, but the depth and in-house coordination required to design this complex project and deliver it on-time and in-budget. In addition to their own design standards, FedEx required that this facility be designed to comply with multiple enhanced seismic building codes and standards including IBC 2012, ASCE 7-10, and FM Global.
The new 70,900-square-foot, high-traffic facility includes a large open primary sort area, a road truck delivery (RTD) loading area, a line and vehicle maintenance area, and administrative offices. The building was designed to meet LEED Silver standards and is currently in review for certification.
