Located in an iconic Mid-Century Modern building set in the heart of Midtown on one of Memphis’ most well-traveled thoroughfares, the new Friends for All is to provide a full range of programs and services to help some of Memphis’ most vulnerable populations.  The underlying premise is that regardless of one’s socio-economic status, everyone deserves respect, dignity and compassion.  The building is designed to promote a comfortable, welcoming, joyful experience for members of our community who face a number of hardships.

The new design for the building respects many of the historic Mid-Century Modern elements, while introducing contemporary and industrial features, bringing new life to this beautiful building. This included simplifying the circulation patterns, keeping historic elements, removing unsympathetic alterations that had occurred over the years, and providing new construction that would accommodate the needs of clients and staff.  Located in the middle of a prominent local historic district, the project needed approval from the Memphis Landmarks Commission and buy in from the neighbors.

Updating the façade with new larger windows, a new contemporary entrance and canopy, and new landscaping adding ADA access to the front of the building has turned what some considered out dated and tired into a new fresh and welcoming addition to the neighborhood

This new space provides for a major expansion of the programs offered by Friends for All along with easy client access. This expansion will yield significant strides in addressing the social determinants of health that negatively influence our community while also preserving the dignity of those we serve.

Features include:

  • Large reception area with a coffee bar
  • A teaching and commercial kitchen
  • A community room for large gatherings
  • A dance studio
  • Shared and single office spaces
  • An executive conference/board room
  • Single stall shower and washer and dryer
  • Behavioral health wing
  • Quite rooms for staff and clients
  • A resource center
  • A food pantry with walk-in freezer and refrigerator.
